Outcome Overview
Customers at the edge (Telco, Retail, Industrial) ask for two node OpenShift topologies. Single Node is lacking redundancy / high availability, while three node compact clusters have a hw pricetag for the additional 3d node, if deployed to thousands of locations.
Competition is delivering this capability already today.
Success Criteria
There are several options to provide two node topologies, e.g. 2 node with (remote/local) witness node (aka 2+1 nodes), true two nodes with fencing (based on RHEL HA technology), or true two nodes with heuristics (to recover from split brain situations, which will incur some loss of data).
The outcome is achieved if we have at least one solution supported so we can
Expected Results (what, how, when)
This will unblock sales, esp. for retail customers where a Dell 2+1 HW appliance (Dell XR4000) is used. It will also help customers that want to transition from VMWare to OCP Virt, because there is a similiar vSphere architecture (with 2+1 nodes), that is frequently used at edge deployments.
We expect an increase in OKE / Edge SKUs being used once this is delivered.
Post Completion Review – Actual Results
After completing the work (as determined by the "when" in Expected Results above), list the actual results observed / measured during Post Completion review(s).
