      Feature Overview

Allow cloud bursting from a OpenShift cluster on the bare metal platform to the AWS cloud.

      Goals

As an infrastructure owner of OpenShift I need to expand my OpenShift cluster on the bare metal platform on-premise to the AWS cloud by adding OpenShift workers in AWS to run extra workloads.

As an infrastructure owner of OpenShift I need an automated way of cloud bursting from my bare metal, on-premise clusters, into AWS cloud that adds OpenShift workers in AWS to run extra workloads

      Why is it important

Organizations using OpenShift run workloads that can have load spikes and heavy load fluctuations and require temporary additional compute for them. Customers are requesting the ability to expand their clusters to the cloud when needed while having their main clusters on premise in bare metal nodes. The flexibility of cloud bursting allows customers to run a hybrid cloud that optimizes their infrastructure costs by having an on-prem bare metal cluster sized for the most common workload while being prepared for load spikes.

      Requirements

      Requirement Notes isMvp?
Add new workers in AWS Workers added in AWS join the baremetal cluster along with the rest of the nodes Yes
Autoscaler operator works The autoscaler operator is able to automate the node bursting to the AWS cloud Yes
CI - MUST be running successfully with test automation This is a requirement for ALL features. YES
Release Technical Enablement Provide necessary release enablement details and documents. YES
