Adaptable topology is a cluster-topology mode that adjusts cluster control-plane and infrastructure behavior based on the current number of control-plane and worker nodes. The goal of this spike is to update the enhancement proposal with the answers to the following questions.
Research Questions
- How do we validate operators handle transitions correctly end-to-end?
Involved Teams
- Control Plane (cluster-etcd-operator)
- Operator Teams (console, ingress, TBD)
- OLM (operator lifecycle manager)
Acceptance Criteria
- Design comprehensive test strategy for topology transitions
- Define CI test lanes and coverage requirements
- Identify pre-transition and post-transition test scenarios
- Document operator compatibility validation approach
- Update enhancement proposal with test plan details
Additional Context
- Enhancement Proposal: https://github.com/openshift/enhancements/pull/1905
- Related to Test Plan section of enhancement
- Should cover CI lanes, AdaptableTopology suite, and QE testing
- Needs to address expanded test matrix drawback
