This is an OCP level tracker for this bug in librpm https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2018937

This manifests as intermittent segfaults when carrying forward layered packages during a 4.12 -> 4.13 upgrade; most crucially kernel-rt, but any extension can cause it.

Our CI does fail if it detects node segfaults, but because the MCD retries, the operation will succeed eventually; some customers will likely notice, and it is embarrassing.

But my analysis is this is not a blocker strictly speaking because we will succeed.

In order to deliver this fix, it will currently need to go into 4.12 - unless we do some other heroics in the MCD side.
