Description of problem:
The SDN to OVN-K migration guide recommends upgrading to the latest for example 4.16.x z-stream to ensure all bug fixes are present before migration. However, this can lead to a "stuck" state where no validated upgrade path (edge) exists from a very recent patch (e.g., 4.16.54) to a higher Y-stream (4.17/4.18). The documentation should warn users to verify the upgrade graph before applying the latest patch to avoid being stranded on a version without an immediate upgrade path.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
4.16.54
How reproducible:
Install an OCP cluster with SDN and perform the migration to OVN-K. - Follow the guide's recommendation to upgrade to the latest release (e.g., 4.16.54). - Attempt to upgrade to the next Y-stream (e.g., 4.17).
Actual results:
When a z-stream is very recent, the upgrade path to the next Y-stream is often not yet available. The upgrade is stuck and locked until a new release with a valid upgrade path is published.
Expected results:
Add a prominent warning (e.g., an "Important" or "Warning") to all sections of the SDN-to-OVN-K migration guide that recommend upgrading to the latest z-stream. Warning should explicitly state: - Before upgrading to the latest available z-stream (patch) of the current version, users must verify that a valid upgrade path (edge) exists to their intended target Y-stream (e.g., from 4.16 to 4.17/4.18). - Provide a direct link to the Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform Update Graph. - Advise that installing a very recent z-stream may temporarily "lock" the cluster on the current minor version until a corresponding update path is validated for the next Y-stream.
