      Description of problem:

A bug on the ice driver used by some NICs causes a kernel panic on early boot. This means that live environments (ISO, ...) go to kernel panic before being able to install RHCOS and/or an installed RHCOS will do kernel panic before being able to pivot on a fixed version.

The bug is fixed thanks to a driver rebase documented in RHEL-113412, as the bug is fixed in kernel-5.14.0-570.63.1.el9_6.

So we would need install media to be generated for 4.19 and 4.20 that include this kernel fix.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

4.19 and 4.20 (any version based on RHEL 9.6). Tested with 4.19.10 install media and 4.19.19 install media.

      How reproducible:

Always. On baremetal machine whose NICs use the ice driver (architecture is x86_64).

      Steps to Reproduce:

      • Boot a RHCOS live ISO on a machine with the impacted NICs

      Actual results:

      Kernel panic

      Expected results:

      Working

      Additional info:

Testing with an ISO built from RHCOS 9.6.20251121-0 that has the fixed kernel was successful. So it would work if we just get some recent version of RHCOS with the kernel fix promoted such that it gets used by default.
