The documentation provides a step by step guide for creating a Microshift image however the guide is missing several things in the Kickstart to make the image functional such as a network configuration. 

As a result users that are new to kickstart will struggle (as I did) to get an image created successfully. The kickstart and blueprints in the example should be expanded to provide a more real-world example including things like network, adding a default user, adding an SSH key, etc
