Description of problem:
A kernel panic is seen when using a live iso image of OCP 4.14.30 The image is created using the assisted installer process for a SNO cluster. Support case https://access.redhat.com/support/cases/#/case/03859744 has more information about this issue.
Summary:
Mavenir uses the assisted installer to create iso images for SNO clusters in their labs.
The image generated for OCP 4.16 works well.
The image generated for OCP 4.14 fails with a kernel panic (see logs attached in SC)
RHEL 9.2 & RHEL 9.4 images boot without any issue.
It has been determined that loading the ice driver is causing the issue as adding the modprobe.blacklist=ice to the boot params in the grub editor (see below) allows OCP 4.14.30 to boot properly without the kernel panic issue.
linux /images/pxeboot/vmlinuz coreos.liveiso=rhcos-414.92.202402130420-0 ignition.firstboot ignition.platform=metal modprobe.blacklist=ice
NIC Information:
Mavenir believes the NICs are custom made by Quanta or its contractor for the server.
The WPC chipset NIC has Intel FW version 4.41
The LB chipset NIC has Intel FW version 4.42
