Description of problem
There are missing references/details in the description of OpenShift Image Registry.
Version-Release number of selected component
- https://docs.redhat.com/en/documentation/openshift_container_platform/4.16/html-single/registry/index
- <= OCP 4.16
Steps to Reproduce
As a user with experience with online container registries like quay.io, but
without prior knowledge or OpenShift Internal Registry, you navigate to the documentation for the registry and try to:
- understand what the registry provides for the openshift cluster and it's users
- list existing projects in the registry (globally)
- create new project in the registry
- delete a project in the registry
- mirror existing container image into the internal registry for usage within the cluster
- list container images in given project in the registry
- delete container image from the registry
- check usage of given image in the registry
Actual results
You are confused:
- You can't find answers to your questions.
- There is description how one get any image into the registry.
- There is no description about how the Internal Registry is backing imagestreams and application builds.
- What is the relation between registry project and other openshift resources (like a project/namespace)?
Moreover the docs will make you wonder:
- Why is IDP configuration required? Why there is no hyperlink to relevant part of the openshift docs?
- What is the openshift project in the registry for?
- Why is the example in "4.2. Accessing the registry directly from the cluster" using debug node pod? That feels like a hack.
Expected results
- provide answer to the questions above
- while adding more context
- referencing (via hyperlinks as much as possible) to related parts of openshift
