Description of problem:
The current OpenShift installation documentation lacks comprehensive guidelines for customers to properly size the networks in their clusters. This omission poses a risk of users encountering limitations such as being surprised by a maximum of 128 nodes per cluster, leading to potential scalability issues or unexpected constraints. While tools like https://onc.netlify.app/ offer assistance with cluster network calculations, they cannot be officially integrated into our documentation due to infrastructure constraints. Although there is an existing Request for Enhancement (RFE) to incorporate this tool into RH labs (https://issues.redhat.com/browse/CPLABS-1778), it remains unresolved.
Additional info:
It would be ideal to address this gap in the installation documentation to ensure that users understand the underlying cluster network mathematics during the architecture phase. The absence of clear guidance may result in users inaccurately sizing their clusters, even for modest deployments, potentially limiting scalability to as few as 16 nodes. Additionally, there should be a warning regarding network CIDR overlap, as it can lead to complications, particularly if clusters are interconnected. Placing this information prominently within the installation documentation (instead of hidden deep within the Networking documentation) will enhance user awareness and mitigate potential issues arising from network misconfiguration.
