    Description

      Description of problem:

      This issue is fixed in 4.14 - should it be backported? 

Target down alert are generated as the result of a failed scape - the error seen is "metric name $METRIC_NAME does not support exemplars"

      Steps to Reproduce:

      deploy user workload application with exemplar configured on a Summary or Histogram

      Actual results:

      scrape fails

      Expected results:

      scrape succeeds
