The SPLAT team tried to implement the etcd disk move. In physical hardware this is a potential data loss event. In our scenario the disk ordering changed when rebooting causing the process to fail.

Minimum I would hope for explicit warnings on this process. Alternatively there should be a documented way to use disk uuids to avoid this problem.
