Important
For Logging 6.
The documentation should indicate that the Major and Minor versions of the Red Hat ClusterLogging Operator and the Red Hat Log Storage Operator (Loki or Elasticsearch) should be in the same major and minor versions.
I should be expected to see them at least in the Installation steps (these steps are missing currently for Logging 6) and in the Upgrading steps.
For Logging 5.
The links to the documentation for Installing / Updating Logging are differents. But the important part to highlight for Logging 5 is that the previous rule where the Major and Minor version of the Cluster Logging Operator and the Red Hat Managed Log Storage (Loki or Elasticsearch) must be the same has an exception when the Red Hat Managed Log storage is Elasticsearch as the last minor release of the Red Hat Elasticsearch Operator is 5.8, then, it should be possible to have the Cluster Logging in 5.9 and Elasticsearch in 5.8.
This issue is important as:
- In the past, and caused by some logic in the operators was introduced Migration of the Elasticsearch schema or how certificates were changed causing impact to all the customers
- Currently, as Logging 6.0 is released, Loki should also updated to Logging 6.0, the same that the ClusterLogging Operator
All the previous could appear obvious, but it's not for an OpenShift Admin as the Cluster Logging Operator and the Red Hat Elasticsearch Operator/Red Hat Loki Operator are installed individually and they could be maintained individually.
