    Description

      1. Proposed title of this feature request

Add MCG (Multicloud Object Gateway) in ODF to the OCP subscription

      2. What is the nature and description of the request?

In OpenShift logging 5.4.3, the Elasticsearch Operator was deprecated and was planned to be removed in a future release.
And as the alternative to using the Elasticsearch Operator to manage the default log storage, Loki Operator was provided.
However, Loki requires S3 storage while Elasticsearch did not require it.
On the other hand, our existing OpenShift users have the following three requirements for migrating to Loki:

      • Continue to use already existing storage such as file storage and block storage
      • No additional cost
      • No additional hardware resources

Now, we think that one of the feasible solutions in the already existing Red Hat product is using MCG in ODF.
If Red Hat includes MCG in the OCP subscription and officially supports it, we believe the above requirements can be met.
So, we are requesting the including MCG in the OCP subscription.

Note that the reason why we highlight MCG is to lower the bar for realization with choosing a specific product.

We know that a similar RFE (RFE-2917[1] S3-compatible storage solution for Loki with OpenShift Subscription) was already filed,
but even if the RFE was accepted, we are not sure it would cover all three of the requirements.

      3. Why does the customer need this? (List the business requirements here)

Because existing OpenShift users are unable to meet the requirements they have when migrating to Loki.

      • Continue to use already existing storage such as file storage and block storage
      • No additional cost
      • No additional hardware resources

      4. List any affected packages or components.
