Proposed title of this feature request
Prevent dashboards from defaulting to options that have no data
What is the nature and description of the request?
Originally reported as bug https://issues.redhat.com/browse/OCPBUGSM-46010
Some dashboards have dropdown filters that will cause the dashboard to display no data when certain options are selected. This is particularly unfortunate if the options selected by default have no data. For example, when the "Kubernetes / Compute Resources / Workload" dashboard opens, its "Namespace" option is initially set to the "default" namespace (because "default" is the one that comes first alphabetically). Unfortunately, the "default" namespace has no data for the dashboard, so all graphs just display the message "No datapoints found".
The current approach is not exactly wrong (defaulting to whichever comes first alphabetically), but it is unfortunate UX. We should review whether we want to change this behavior and if so, how we would change it.
