Migh tbe just a opinion but it sounds like a better UX to dissociate the metric type setting in topology side panel, from the setting used for edge labels. This setting is a little bit hidden and I think we expect to see details in the side panel without having to dig in options. So it should be accessible directly in the side panel, or maybe show different tabs for different metrics ...
