Epic Goal

• Customers have simplified way to install RHOCP on IBM Z on logical partitions (LPAR) with using openshift-installer against ICIC interfaces (has some similarities with OpenStack).
• IPI does not onboard new platforms, so we are looking to install using a different method and currently planning to use platform external as the platform.

Why is this important?

• Simplifies setup for customers, makes setup less error-prone. Makes using the IBM Z platform more easy.

  • Research: Platform external / OpenStack provider.
  • Research: How can Assisted Services be used by the installation flow to setup platform external cluster

  • Prototype implementation of required components (CCM, ...)
  • Prototype for installer, Draft PR for openshift components (assess impact on openshift-installer, if there is impact).

  • Capture the new requirement for assisted services / installer.
  • Discuss design with RH team, and create epic for later releases.
