1. Proposed title of this feature request
Warm migration of VMs across OpenShift clusters
3. What is the nature and description of the request?
Once a customer has adopted VMs on OpenShift, they sometime will need to migrate workloads from across clusters.
4. Why does the customer need this? (List the business requirements here)
To reduce impact on business critical production workloads, they may move lower tier applications to another cluster.
Organizational changes can impact application ownership, requiring infrastructure changes. or other regulatory or licensing requirements.
5. How would the customer like to achieve this? (List the functional requirements here)
These migrations need to be done quickly, and with minimal disruption to the business. Similar to how we can do a warm migration from VMware to OpenShift, they should be able to migrate workloads from one OpenShift cluster to another.
6. For each functional requirement listed, specify how Red Hat and the customer can test to confirm the requirement is successfully implemented.
Migrations of active standard IT workloads. (web server, middleware, database) with an RTO of less than 10 minutes.
7. Is there already an existing RFE upstream or in Red Hat Bugzilla?
No
8. Does the customer have any specific timeline dependencies and which release would they like to target (i.e. RHEL8, RHEL9)?
This is an active opportunity, as soon as able.
9. Is the sales team involved in this request and do they have any additional input?
Yes, this is directly from customer.
10. List any affected packages or components.
Need to account from difference in OpenShift versions, we want to be as broad as possible, and migrate across all supported version of OpenShift. i.e migrate a VM from OCP 4.12 to OCP 4.15
11. Would the customer be able to assist in testing this functionality if implemented?
