The purpose of MTV-3855 is to document a new feature that enables the preservation of static IP addresses when migrating Virtual Machines that are configured to use User-Defined Networks (UDN).

In environments where VMs rely on static IP configurations for communication (e.g., database servers, load balancers, or critical infrastructure), losing this address during migration to the new container host environment can cause immediate and severe service disruption.

This task involves documenting the mechanism—whether it is an automatic feature, a required configuration flag, or an annotation—that ensures the VM's static IP configuration is carried over successfully. The documentation must clearly outline the prerequisites and procedures for administrators to leverage this feature, thereby minimizing post-migration networking configuration and ensuring a smooth transition of critical services.

      JTBD Statement:

"When I am migrating critical Virtual Machines that rely on static IP addresses within User-Defined Networks, I want the migration tool to automatically preserve that exact IP configuration so that I can ensure zero service disruption and eliminate the need for complex, error-prone manual network configuration after the VM is brought online in the new environment."

The documentation task (MTV-3855) supports this job by addressing the primary sub-job:

"When a new network preservation feature is available, I need a clear, actionable guide so that I can activate the static IP preservation setting correctly and confidently rely on the new VM immediately connecting to the network as expected, without manual intervention."
