Goal
Today, different sections in the UI of editable forms look and feels different on many pages
After this epic, the UI would have a standard way of editing.
User Stories
- As a cluster admin,
I want to have a similar way of editing flow across different pages.
Overview
This task involves documenting the UI overhaul that standardizes how users interact with editable fields and forms within the MTV web console. Previously, editing workflows (such as modifying provider credentials, network mappings, or migration plans) lacked a cohesive design pattern, leading to cognitive load and a fragmented user experience.
The 2.11.0 release introduces a unified interaction model. Documentation must be updated to reflect these visual and procedural changes, ensuring users understand how to trigger, save, or cancel edits consistently across all modules.
Scope of Documentation
- Interface Updates: Audit all existing screenshots and procedures in the Installing and Using MTV guide that involve editing UI elements.
- Workflow Consistency: Update step-by-step instructions to reflect the new standardized "Edit" triggers (e.g., inline editing, modal-based editing, or side-panel configurations).
- Feature Parity: Cross-reference with MTV-3745 to ensure release notes accurately capture the improved ease-of-use and the specific UI components that have changed.
Technical Details
- Target Fix Version: 2.11.0
- Status: New/Unresolved
- Blockers: Coordination required with the UX/UI team to finalize the "Source of Truth" for the new design system (PatternFly integration).
Persona and JTBD
Persona: The Cluster Administrator
Role Description: A technical professional responsible for managing and maintaining the OpenShift infrastructure and the migration of virtualized workloads.
- Behavioral Profile: This persona manages multiple complex tools daily. They value predictability and speed. They do not want to "re-learn" how to use a tool every time they navigate to a different sub-page.
- Focus: Operational efficiency and minimizing configuration errors during high-stakes migrations.
Job to Be Done (JTBD)
When configuring or updating migration resources across different sections of the MTV console, the user wants a consistent and predictable editing interface, so that they can perform administrative tasks quickly and accurately without having to adapt to varying UI behaviors on every page.
Documentation Strategy
| Section | Required Change |
| Navigation & UI Overview | Introduce the standardized editing icons and button placements. |
| Managing Providers | Update screenshots to show the new unified edit flow for vSphere/Ovirt/RHV providers. |
| Migration Plans | Revise procedures for editing existing plans to reflect the standardized "Wizard-style" or "Inline" updates. |
| Release Notes | Highlight the transition to a standardized UX as a primary improvement in version 2.11.0. |
