Duration of the VM migration on the OpenShift Virtualization Roadshow environment with myself the sole user:
- 2 VMs same as above - around 40min
- 3 VMs - around 1.5 hours
is too long (not even counting a roomful of attendees who are doing the same thing in the workshop which is bound to make the duration even longer). It would not be a great experience for the attendees, in my opinion. Some may have left the workshop before the completion of the migration.
The database VM on VMWare has a hard disk of 7GiB and only 1.9GiB was in use. The winweb01 VM's hard disk is 21GiB and only around 7GiB was in use. But a total of 7 + 21 GiB (converted VM images) appears to have been transferred from vCenter to OpenShift Local. With data compression, the time to complete the VM migration would have been much reduced due to only a small portion of the VM hard disks being used. This appears to be a good way to improve the performance of MTV.
