We repeatedly get queries about persistent storage and which volume types are supported. Our documentation on this is somewhat vague and confusing:
- we have https://docs.openshift.com/container-platform/4.10/monitoring/configuring-the-monitoring-stack.html#configuring-a-local-persistent-volume-claim_configuring-the-monitoring-stack. This mentions "Use the block type of storage." but also has a note to not use "volumeMode: block" without further details. Also this mentions the Local Storage Operator (LSO) multiple times, but no clarification is made whether other storage provides are supported as well
- https://docs.openshift.com/container-platform/4.10/scalability_and_performance/optimizing-storage.html#recommended-configurable-storage-technology_persistent-storage has additional information about storage considerations. Here the block and filesytem type are marked as supported for metrics. More details are needed.
This was discussed before in https://github.com/openshift/openshift-docs/pull/19354#discussion_r372295085 but the outcome was seemingly never transferred to the docs.
