A new Map-oriented abstract connector implementation was introduced as part of MODE-714, and the majority of the functionality was abstracted into a new BaseConnector class. The FileSystem, SVN, and JDBC Metadata connectors are path-oriented rather than map-oriented, so should make use of a path-oriented subclass of BaseConnector. This issue represent the task of creating this specialization as well as converting the FileSystem, SVN, and JDBC Metadata connectors.

If the older PathRepository class is no longer used, it should be deprecated in the code and no longer referenced in the documentation.

It is critical that any changes to the connectors are backward-compatible. This means that the configuration information not change.

(It may be useful to break out the conversion of the 3 existing connectors into their own subtasks, where the work can be shared with other people. If that is preferred, please do so.)
