    Description

      There's an open Design doc upstream that discusses the future Istio APIs for Wasm extensions. It might not be approved in time for 2.1, so we need to make plans for our ServiceMeshExtension API.

      Ideally, the ServiceMeshExtension v1 API will be very close to this upstream proposal, so that in 2.2 we can offer both and deprecate the MAISTRA-specific API, and in 2.3 (or later) we can remove it in favour of the upstream API.
