Goals
- Align with enterprise infrastructure expectations (e.g., VMware), where local log storage is a default feature and deploy the OpenShift Logging Operator by default during OpenShift installation.
- Improve troubleshooting and observability without needing to preconfigure external storage or full logging stacks.
- Allow users to optionally extend the deployment to include the full logging stack (Loki, UIs).
Non-Goals
Motivation
- We need to collect to Must Gather logs also for deleted resources for troubleshooting, in OpenShift clusters, SNO and egde. Currently if OCP logging wasn't installed we will not be able to collect logs for the resources that failed and deleted.
- Provide a lightweight, default logging setup to avoid log loss in common crash or OOM scenarios.
- Align with enterprise infrastructure expectations (e.g., VMware), where local log storage is a default feature.
- Improve troubleshooting and observability without needing to preconfigure external storage or full logging stacks.
- Allow gradual adoption — users can scale up to full observability stacks when needed.
