Goals
- Create new views for correlated observability data (logging, tracing)
- Augment existing views to display/link to correlated data (alerts, metrics, resources)
- Initially these views will be part of the openshift console
- Views should be written in a modular, re-usable way
- we will re-use them in other consoles, although we don't know exactly how
- likely contexts are ACM, HyperShift, Hub-to-Edge multi-cluster etc.
Non-Goals
This epic covers openshift console only, we should adopt good coding practice for re-use but we don't yet need to guess at possible future requirements.
Motivation
See LOG-1779
Alternatives
Use 3rd party tools to visualize the output of our correlation engine.
This would undercuts the Value Proposition in LOG-1779.
Acceptance Criteria
The following criteria are too vague for acceptance criteria, they indicate desired direction but not stopping points. Clearer acceptance criteria will be given in associated stories.
Openshift console views to show:
- Improved Log view that can pull aggregated logs from the logging exploration API and/or the correlation engine.
- New Trace view that can pull trace data directly, or from the correlation engine.
- Improved Alert view showing/linking to correlated Logs, Metrics, Events and Traces.
- Improved Run Book view with links to correlated objects and clickable commands.
- Improved Event and other Resource views showing/linking to correlated data.
Documentation Considerations
Console components should be self-documenting, user doc also required.
