Goals

• Allow the definition of CloudWatch as a new output type inside the log forwarding API.
• Allow for most common configurations such as region, log_group_name, and possible others. See the default cloudWatch agent configuration here.

Non-Goals

Motivation

Many times customers want to have a choice on their preferred platform to store and analyze log data. For Red Hat's Hybrid Cloud story, it is important that we give them that choice to enable smooth transitions.

Another reason is that at a higher number of clusters, most customers prefer to centralize data and keep the pressure inside the cluster as low as possible. Any more heavy log storage solution deployed on all clusters may be a burden and unnecessary in those scenarios.
