From the JBoss Messaging 5.1 QE Review, the following valid point was raised:

"The non-clustered examples expect an instance of JBoss Enterprise Application Platform to be running with all default settings. "

COMMENT: Can we highligh which are clustered/non-clustered in the doc?

This would involve investigating the readme.html in each example to determine whether the example is a clustered or non-clustered example. Or what would be simpler is to ask the Messaging lead what examples are clustered/non-clustered.
