Epic Goal
- Enable ACM to provision clusters on Azure using Azure Marketplace images to drive committed cloud spend towards OpenShift Subscriptions
Why is this important?
- OpenShift is strategically targeting presence in cloud provider marketplaces
- A rudimentary implementation exists using openshift-install and customized templates as described in https://access.redhat.com/articles/6484031
- Customers using ACM / Hive should have the capability to deploy OpenShift clusters running of images from the Azure Marketplace to enable hourly consumption
- Other cloud provider marketplaces are probably enabled in the same way at first (an RHCOS image used by worker nodes to drive OCP billing via the cloud provider)
Scenarios
- As a user of ACM I'd like to use Hive to deploy a cluster on Azure that is billed on a pay-as-you bases via a RHCOS image from the Azure Marketplace for worker nodes only
- The exact RHCOS image used for the cluster's workers is supplied by the user
