Dropping a -ds.xml into the deployments directory is very common for the JBoss Tools & JBDS user, we provide a wizard that allows for easy creation and a simple way to "hot deploy" a -ds.xml. When you use this technique, the datasource is listed under "Deployments" instead of "DataSources" in the Admin Console and you can not see the details as an administrator.
