      During pre-review of HAC-491 work Pete suggested smarter types and there is a means to do it via TypeScript types.

      Acceptance Criteria

      • Make `extensions` and `pluginMetadata` two properties instead of a union
        • Each property is mutually exclusive, and both can be omitted (defaults exist)
