concatenation of names results in `too long` errors

Due the concatenation of resource names, it's possible for the user to get into a situation where creating a sample fails for the user.

Create an application with a long name and then try to create a sample. The following error occurs. 

Since the user has no control over this naming, the UI must ensure to provide a name that fits within the limits.
