[python] Client leak affecting Satellite in 0.28

Satellite recently upgraded to proton 0.28 (from 0.26). They are now seeing new memory accumulation in their goferd client (which uses python-proton) under some scenarios documented here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1754314
