On standalone fuse admin:create will spawn karaf instance with default user "karaf" and password "karaf". admin:connect doesn't use "karaf" username by default but something else. You have to specify "admin:connect --username karaf" in order to connect to child instance. There is no option for specifying username and password while creating child instance. Therefore same default users in both commands should be used.
