There have been various AMPQ Java libraries in the Apache Qpid project. The earlier qpid-amqp-1-0-client-jms had a way to manipulate AMPQ annotations, by converting them to/from JMS headers (see https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/QPID-6078).
This facility was never implemented in the later Qpid JMS so, if a Camel application needs access to AMQP annotations, there are few alternatives than to try to wire camel-amqp to an older AMQP library. This is difficult technically, and probably not supportable.
AMQP annotations do not necessarily map directly onto JMS features but, even in JMS, there are legitimate reasons for reading this data.
