Our internal aggregation pipeline for regex database and collection filtering currently uses rather expensive transformation. This is due to different support of aggregation operators across MongoDB versions (and additional discrepancies in case of AWS Document DB to make things more fun). We should try to be a bit smarter and use more efficient aggregations when the target database allows it.
