it seems that the schema change topic message does not have keys which would break kafka connect unless we comment out

CONNECT_key.converter.schemas.enable=false
CONNECT_value.converter.schemas.enable=false

Chatted with Randall in gitter, he mentioned that a non-null scheme needs to be supplied for the keys.
