Right now the assumption during the Maven build is that several directories/files are mounted into the Docker containers the integration tests run against. This allows the build to use "standard" images by mounting in the files from src/test/docker so the database configuration file(s) and scripts are available in the container. For those of us running the Docker host as a guest VM, it can get complicated building and copying between the guest and host machines or mapping folders into the guest VM. In these situations, it would be easier if the build created images based upon the "standard" images and include the necessary files in the image itself. This makes it much easier to know that the container is running correctly in any environment.
