Improve Java workspace usage with customizeable settings.xml

XMLWordPrintable

Java is the backbone of Red Hat's middleware and is probably the most widely used language in the RH user-space. Please make an enhancement so Java usage better conforms to enterprise development practices.

Maven is the most widely used Java build manager. The center of Maven configuration is 'settings.xml', a configuration file that drives issues like repository selection. Please come up with a scheme that allows the user to easily modify this vital file.

One interested user reports that they are aware that manual modifications can be made to the ~/.m2/ directory of the workspace container, but this is deemed a cumbersome workaround. Please make this action more 'natural' in the Java development flow.

Please note that this request is orthogonal to 'offline' issues. This scenario is valid in both offline and connected scenarios.
