Background
The driving use case of this epic is well detailed in RFE-2719. The gist is that the Telco ZTP solution is based around using a small ISO and then using coreos.live.rootfs_url parameter to specify the rootfs location. What would be useful for this case and can be generalized to other types of deployments would be the ability to preload the rootfs onto a local disk and be able to point to that.
This would:
- avoid bandwidth contention due to weak links or many node deployments at once
- speed up deployment times in the field
- allow for a remote "factory reset" option, particularly useful in single-node configurations
Requirements
Needs refinement. Prior discussion in the RFE and in this upstream issue.
