Storage team is working on GA of VolumeAttribute feature - https://kubernetes.io/docs/concepts/storage/volume-attributes-classes/

These behave similar to StorageClasses and can be applies to PVCs. Similar to storageclasses they are immutable after creation though. But unlike StorageClasses, PVC's VAC can be updated and hence can be used to modify attributes of underlying volume.
