      Goal

      RHEL has provided an easier "host-model" based automatic tuning option for Hyper-V enlightenments, which can greatly simplify Windows VM definitions and user experience and ensure that VMs are tuned for best performance.

      User Stories

      • As a cluster administrator, I want to see simplified Windows VM definitions.
      • As a VM user, I want all Hyper-V tunings applied for best workload performance, with the correct options automatically configured depending on the host CPU model.

      Non-Requirements

      • Support for kernels older than 9.6 are not required

      Notes

      • RHEL trackers: RHEL-122932 (10.2) & RHEL-114003 (9.8) & RHEL-122929 (9.6.z)
      • RHEL QE verified with:
        • libvirt-10.10.0-7.10.el9_6.x86_64
          qemu-kvm-9.1.0-15.el9_6.14.x86_64

      • Support for at least:
        • <features>
          ...
              <hyperv mode='host-model'/>
          </features>
          And potentially also:
          <hyperv mode="passthrough"/>
