The goal of this user story is to enable the export of the built in operator metrics as described in the operator framework docs.
Also, the need for the custom metrics have to be thought: credentials secret sync, trusted ca configmap sync, operand deployment availability.

Out of scope
The operand metrics don't have labels hence cannot be distinguished between the ExternalDNS instances and even zone containers (each zone from the zones field gets its own container). The protection by kube-rbac-proxy would be a little too heavy as it would have to be done for each zone container, the metrics service and service monitor are needed only for each ExternalDNS instance.
