Bootstrap-select is glitchy, sometimes not displaying the first option of a dropdown list. It will originally display the first option as selected, similar to a placeholder, but once another item is selected it will no longer appear in the dropdown list. Similarly, if the dropdown only has one option, the actual dropdown will be empty.
