The Gateway Management API allows admins to create and manage Gateway instances within the management layer. This is confusing, but what it means is that admins can set up multiple Gateways within the management layer. When this is done, Service Producers can choose which Gateway their Service will be published to.

Often, there will be only a single apiman Gateway, at which point the Service Producer will not have to choose one.
