Feature Overview
Background: Customers that are already invested in using Fargate (majority of container workloads) and still catching up with EKS and OpenShift onpremise are looking to have a single pane of glass of management.
The same way ACM already manages EKS clusters, EKS + Fargate deployments can also be managed by ACM.
Goals
ACM to support the management of EKS clusters with Fargate profiles to be added as another platform.
Requirements
Deploy aCM Hub
Deploy EKS cluster with Fargate profile
Create Fargate profile for app workloads
Create Fargate profile for ACM workloads (klusterlet, addons, etc)
Assumptions
EKS + Fargate is an EKS service at the end.
It can deploy containers and use the Kubernetes API. Then it can be managed by ACM.
Cannot manage Fargate with ECS because it is not based on k8s.
Customer Considerations
- Centralize container management in one tool. Single pane of glass.
Documentation Considerations
Questions to be addressed:
- What educational or reference material (docs) is required to support this
product feature? For users/admins? Other functions (security officers, etc)?- Documentation and supportability.
- Does this feature have a doc impact?
- Yes, documentation should be updated with the new platform and how to deploy/manage it.
- New Content, Updates to existing content, Release Note, or No Doc Impact
- Yes.
- If unsure and no Technical Writer is available, please contact Content
Strategy. - What concepts do customers need to understand to be successful in
[action]? - How do we expect customers will use the feature? For what purpose(s)?
- Central management. Expand the use of ACM.
- What reference material might a customer want/need to complete ?
- documentation.
- Doc reference: https://github.com/renatoppuccini/fargate
- Is there source material that can be used as reference for the Technical
Writer in writing the content? If yes, please link if available. - What is the doc impact (New Content, Updates to existing content, or
Release Note)?- updates to existing Cluster page and release notes and matrix supportability.
