The GitOps addon currently deploys a stripped down, non OLM version of the OpenShift GitOps operator when enabled through the GitOpsCluster CR. This lightweight operator supports non OCP clusters but lacks OLM integration and therefore cannot automatically update itself.

This Jira adds a new optional field to the GitOpsCluster CR that enables deployment of the full, OLM managed OpenShift GitOps operator on ManagedClusters that are OpenShift clusters. This enhancement gives customers the flexibility to choose the complete, self updating operator when they prefer the full OpenShift GitOps experience and its lifecycle management capabilities if they have OCP ManagedClusters.
