Why is this important?
Message from Tim Cramer:
Hi all - I wanted to follow up on the discussion we had on internal use of AI during the most recent Product Engineering All Hands meeting. (Please see the All Hands Recap and Important Updates email I sent on March 20.) I promised you that we’d be sharing more information on this and each of my leaders would be communicating with their teams about the goal that was specific for their team. (Some have already sent out messaging around this.)
We have created a Source page [1] that explains the new process and should answer questions about what is expected of you.
With the recent launch of Quarterly Connections in Workday, now is the perfect time to reflect on your Q1 achievements and set goals [2] that ignite your passion and drive your growth. As part of this overall effort, everyone will have an AI-focused goal — for example, building foundational AI knowledge. This isn’t just about completing a task; it’s about selecting something meaningful that excites and accelerates your development. As always, ensure your goals are SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound). Please be sure to name the goal specifically in Workday – call it your AI Goal.
As mentioned during the All Hands, as with all performance goals, completing this objective will be considered in your overall performance evaluation and will have an impact on your VIC allocation. (This is a global message, and we acknowledge that there are locations where additional steps are required. [3])
The internal use of AI initiative is not just a Product Engineering-specific effort. This is happening across Global Engineering. And as I said during the All Hands, failure is OK. What’s important is trying and learning. Experiment. Succeed or fail. Give feedback. Communicate wins or learnings. Try….and try again.
[3] As with all performance goals, managers will have discretion to make a fact-based assessment of an associate’s overall performance, including progress toward AI-related goals. Goal completion may be one of several factors influencing VIC allocation as part of the broader performance evaluation. To ensure clarity and support, these discussions should take place during Quarterly Connects, where expectations can be set, progress can be tracked, and any necessary guidance can be provided to help associates achieve their goals.
