- What is the nature and description of the request?
The customer is requesting an enhancement to Ansible Automation Platform (AAP) that allows managed node licenses to be reclaimed for hosts that have been removed from inventories but continue to be counted as managed nodes due to their presence in Automation Analytics → Metrics.
Currently, even after a host is removed from an inventory source (for example, a Red Hat Satellite inventory), the host continues to appear in Automation Analytics metrics and is counted toward managed node licensing. There is no supported mechanism to remove or expire such hosts from the Metrics view, which prevents license reclamation for systems that are no longer being automated.
-
- To ensure accurate managed node license consumption that reflects only actively automated hosts
-
- To reclaim licenses from decommissioned or long-unused systems
-
- To avoid artificial license exhaustion caused by stale analytics data
-
- To maintain compliance and optimize licensing costs in large or dynamic environments
-
- Provide a supported method to remove, expire, or archive hosts from Automation Analytics Metrics
-
- Optionally allow license reclamation based on:
-
-
- Host inactivity over a configurable time period
-
-
-
- Explicit user action (manual cleanup of metrics)
-
-
- Ensure that hosts removed from inventories and no longer automated are not counted as managed nodes
-
- Clearly document how managed node counts are derived when Analytics data is involved
