Azure Advisor is a free offering that helps customers optimize their Azure deployments. Advisor analyzes service configuration and usage telemetry to identify potential issues and offer generates recommendations. A recommendation is a solution tailored to customer environment and based on best practices of cost effectiveness, performance, reliability, and security of Azure resources. Customers that follow best practices are more likely to avoid incidents and avoid unnecessary costs, which improves their overall satisfaction with Azure.

SDK/API hygiene for Azure workloads came out as priority best practice for Azure after COVID related investigations (Project Thorpe and Project Mackey) and incidents caused by outdated SDK versions which impacted top customers (Walmart, Kroger etc.).

If a service has multiple versions of SDK/APIs, the team that owns it should onboard a recommendation in Advisor to help customers identify impacted workloads and suggest an upgrade. This will help prevent issues related to SDK/API hygiene.
